Niece's Birthday Cake

This cute design was a card I created for my niece in Canada.  She is 16 this year (hard to believe!) but I think she still likes pink!  I don't have too many birthday specific stamps (must buy more stamps... must buy more stamps.... as if I need an excuse!) but I found a Whipper Snapper set from a couple of years ago that had the right kind of birthday cake image.

I added color to the cake using my Prismacolor pencils.  They really are my medium of choice right now - I just can't seem to get Copic coloring right.  What I really need is a Copic class in the Alabama area, but I don't think they have ever come this far south - I'd probably have to go to Atlanta.

I hope you've had a good start to your week?

Watercolor Daisy

Good morning y'all! I do feel like I have the creative mojo back over these last few days. I am excited to create something beautiful because of personal inspiration rather than following a sketch or competition (although that doesn't mean I will never enter Mojo Monday again or try the Taylored Expressions sketch challenge). I realize that means fewer people may visit my blog because I won't be linked to any other challenge blogs or threads, but I will just learn to live with that because I want to be enthusiastic with my own ideas and not be driven by other deadlines (or my desire to get on a design team..... if it happens, it happens and if not, well ..... it doesn't!!!!)

My card today includes a sweet little image from Whipper Snapper designs. They have some cute whimsical images. Normally I shy away from whimsical cards, but I am trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something new.

Instead of using my PrismaColors with this image I tried using my SU! watercolor pencils and an aquapainter. I am pleased with the end result - the effect is soft and subtle. The card is very simple in its design to allow the main image to be center of attention.

Hope you are having a good week?

Hello Neighbor

I am loving these gorgeous colorful papers from My Mind's Eye. I don't normally use orange, but this shade was just calling out to me to be used in large quantities! It is slightly glittered but unfortunately the photo doesn't show it too well.

The little house stamp is from a Whipper Snapper Designs set called 'Hello Neighbor'. I paper pieced the image together by cutting out the house and mounting it with pop dots on a circle cut of blue and green patterned paper. The green dotted paper is cut in slits across the top to make it look a little more like grass - I then tried to rough up the edges a little to make it look more natural. Here is a close up of the the main image :

I am getting back into the practice of coloring in my images this week and I enjoyed using my Prismacolors again with this card.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Pink Birthday Cake

On Saturday we went to a birthday party for a one year old girl. When I checked my stock of cards all I had were little boy cards, so I used the Taylored Expressions sketch to create this cute little pink one. (Please excuse the dark quality of the photo - I was taking it at the end of the day and could not get the light quite right.)

Here's the sketch I was working from :

Thanks for stopping by!

A Happy Heart

Last week at our church VBS the music leaders were always making sure that the children had happy hearts that showed cheerful faces. I knew that I had to use this stamp to create a card for them at the end of the week!

The cheerful paper is Basic Grey's Sugar Rush and the cute little sun stamp is from Whipper Snapper Designs. I wanted to dress the card up a little as the design is fairly basic and so I added my favorite border punch (again! - I'll try and stop using it soon...) and some cute tiny Making Memories buttons.

Hope you have a happy day!

TCP Tuesday #109

If there is one thing more difficult that making a round card, it is trying to take a picture of it! It took a long time to figure out how to get this card to stand up and cooperate for a photo.... This is for The Cat's Pajamas challenge TCP Tuesday #109. Here is the sketch :

The colors in my stamped image from Whipper Snapper are inspired by the patterned paper from the new Fancy Pants My Family collection. I used PrismaColor pencils and baby oil to blend this image, although I now have some Gamsol and I am going to try that out as soon as I can figure out how to open the container : ) !!

Hope you are having a great start to your week,
Sarah

Bonus Friday - Mojo Frogs

Here is a bonus card today!

I have really loved the Mojo Monday Sketch this week and I think this is the third card I have created using the same sketch! These cute little frogs are from Whipper Snapper from a set called 'Fishy Friends'. I colored them with PrismaColor pencils and then cut each one out individually and used pop dots to give them some dimension. This time I did not use a border punch, I just decided to leave the edges plain, but I used a little ribbon to add some detail at the bottom of the card. I am loving my new Spellbinders dies and the sentiment is stamped on a small label die.

Stamps : Whipper Snapper (Frog)
Paper : Basic Black, Whisper White, DCWV Citrus Stack
Ink : Staz-On Black, SU! Basic Black
Accessories : PrismaColor Pencils, Scallop Circle Punch, Spellbinders Label Die, Celery Ribbon from Michaels

Whipper Snapper Frog

Good afternoon!

My card today is again inspired by Amy Sheffer. If you look at her blog (I'd add a link here if I knew how!) you'll see that she really is an amazing artist. I get SO many ideas from her, but I know I must make sure to give her the credit!

This little frog is from Whipper Snapper Designs in a cling stamp set called Fishy Friends. I used DCWV Citrus Stack for the paper and the blue is from Stampin'Up! InColor cardstock from a few years ago (I forget the name of it now). Again I've used PrismaColor pencils to color in the image. I need a lot of practice with my pencils, so you'll probably see a lot of images using PrimaColors in future posts.

Stamps : Whipper Snapper
Paper : SU! Blue (can't think of the exact name!) and Whisper White, DCWV Citrus Stack
Ink : Staz-On Black
Accessories : Tag Punch, Celery Ribbon from Michaels, Border Punch, SEI Button, SU! Celery Marker
